Marijuana is something that’s accessible, and it can be overly accessible to the point that you get too high from it. When you consume marijuana, the chemical delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is what makes you high. The potency varies from one plant to another, and the effects of marijuana will also vary.
When you get too high from marijuana and want to bring it down a notch, you need to know the effective ways on how to counteract this high and sober up a bit. Here seven of the things you must remember.
- Be aware of your limitations.
If marijuana is new to you, you have to control yourself and take it slow. Vaping or ingesting will also result to very different reactions that you may never have had before, so you have to be careful about THC content. For edibles, 5mg per serving is enough for beginners.
- Do not panic. Breathe in, breathe out.
Try not to panic. Even if you feel like you’re totally not in control, you have to keep your senses in order and try to keep cool. It’s highly unlikely that you will die from a marijuana overdose, so there’s no need to panic. Just keep breathing and think of the other steps you can do.
- Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.
It’s always best to keep some water on hand. You will likely feel some dryness in your mouth, but you can easily alleviate this with cold water. Gulping up on water is the most ideal, but you can also go for juice or soda if you want a little flavor. Don’t use this as an excuse to drink alcoholic beverages though, because alcohol can significantly increase your THC levels.
- When life gives you lemons…
The terpene limonene that can be found in the peel of citrus fruits such as lemon, so it’s a very effective way of counteracting a marijuana high. You can either throw in some lemon wedges in your beverage or actually drink freshly-squeezed lemon juice for a more potent drink.
- Shake it off.
If you want to sober up, exercise is one of the best ways. Release those endorphins and take your mind (and body) away from that high, even if exercise is probably the last thing you want to do. Get moving and shake it off with a few simple exercises. You can even just go for a walk.
- Don’t hit the snooze button.
Sometimes, sleep is all you need. The discomfort you feel will pass, and falling asleep is a good way to relax and just recharge your body. Sometimes a quick catnap will do, but if your body wants to rest then just sleep it off.
- Take a shower.
Get in the shower or bath, and the running water is guaranteed to help you relax. For one, it stops the room from spinning. On the other hand, the soothing sensation of running water will do you well, and you can even go from hot to cold to hot.
