What To Do When Getting Too High on Marijuana

How High is a Little Too High?

Perhaps you inhaled the smoke a little too fast, or munched too much of those brownies. Maybe it was your first time trying out concentrates and you underestimated the potency. Or maybe, you’re simply a low-tolerance consumer. Whatever the reason, it’s entirely possible to get TOO high on marijuana. But there’s no need to panic.

Consuming too much marijuana too fast can be problematic, and it can really be disconcerting especially for first-time users. But the last thing you should do is panic, because there are ways to counteract the sensations you’re getting.

How High is a Little Too High?

Getting too high on marijuana usually happens to those who are doing it for the first time and don’t know their limits. It’s more common when consuming concentrates and edibles because the potency is higher. Whatever your method of consumption is, it’s always better to take it slow.

When you get too high on marijuana, you’ll notice that you’ll feel like you’re spun out. Other symptoms of getting too high include loss of coordination, inability to think properly, unexplainable confusion, increased heart rate, and even paranoia. In extreme cases, too much marijuana can cause a cerebral high that produces not just hyperactivity and the inability to relax but even intense anxiety, fear, and panic.

Different people have different reactions to it, but one thing’s for sure: the feeling is not pleasant. Nobody wants to get too high on marijuana because it can become really uncomfortable, and this is why you should know how to counteract it.

Keep Calm and Do Not Panic

There are many ways to counteract the effects of getting too high on marijuana, and it’s best to go with what’s readily available to you. Here are some of the things you can do:

  • Drink lemon juice – If you have some lemons in your fridge, squeeze some of the juice out, throw in some of the peel, and treat yourself to a fresh lemon drink that will make you feel better instantly. This is thanks to the terpenes that are present in lemon.
  • Chew on some black pepper – Take it from ancient Rome. They used to go with a concoction made from black pepper and pine nuts. The black pepper gives sedation thanks to the beta-caryophyllene and myrcene in it, while the pine nuts bring mental clarity. In fact, sniffing or chewing some black peppercorns should do the trick.
  • Hydrate with water – If you get too high, hydrate yourself. A nice cold glass (or glasses) of water is the best option here, because it helps you regain focus and combat dryness in your mouth and body. You can also go for other cold beverages as long as it’s non-caffeinated and non-alcoholic.
  • Take a shower – If it’s feasible and you’re just at home or at a friend’s house, a nice long shower or bath can actually help you feel refreshed and make you more relaxed than you are. The water will help revive and soothe you, bringing you down from your high.
